Garden Greats
As our garden flourishes during the summer months, a bounty of fresh ingredients, seasonal flavors, and vibrant colors become ripe for the picking. By the middle of summer, the gardeners at our Schenley location are busy caring for and collecting a delicious variety of crops that will soon make their way to your next meal at The Porch.
Our colorful collection of garden vegetables and herbs this season includes peppers, tomatoes, radishes, kale, mint, cilantro, basil, sage, chives, oregano, lemon balm, and even edible flowers. Paired with local produce from partners like Grow Pittsburgh, these fresh, crisp, and flavorful garden items liven up not just salads but a multitude of dishes across our menu, and some in deliciously unexpected ways.
Habanero Peppers bring an intense summer heat and fruity flavor to our Mango Habanero Chicken while our garden Jalapeño Peppers add spice and heat to our BBQ Chicken Pizza. Lunch Box Bell Peppers and Biquinho Peppers will also be featured this summer in different menu items along with a variety of cherry and grape tomatoes including Sunpeach (pink), Indigo Cherry Drop (black/red), Honeydrop (orange), Sunrise Bumblebee (yellow), and Supersweet 100 (red).
Fresh herbs provide numerous health benefits, and they enhance the flavors of a dish or drink. Sweet and aromatic, our garden Basil offers a peppery accent to dishes like our Margherita Pizza and garnishes beverages like our Bourbon Peach Smash and Strawberry Basil Smash. Refreshing Mint leaves add a cool, aromatic quality to our Pineapple Mojito cocktail and Mojito mocktail.
Our gardeners aren’t the only ones hard at work providing fresh ingredients for our menu. The bees in our rooftop beehives contribute sweet honey to many of our appetizers, pizzas, entrees, and even cocktails, including our Porch Honey Butter, Pizza Dough infused with house-made honey, our Salmon glazed with Hot Honey, and Honey Bee cocktail complete with rooftop honey.
With ingredients that originate from rooftop beehives, our very own garden, and local gardening partners, guests can expect fresh, seasonal flavors here at The Porch.
